    Glad you are sharing the benefit of your experience; these are important insights. Re: simple first aid and home care for minor illnesses, I learned first aid from some Red Cross courses in elementary school, and learned about taking care of illnesses from my mom. But if someone wasn't fortunate enough to grow up learning this stuff, nowadays there are vast resources to learn from instantly--we have free advice nurse hotlines, tons of reputable web sites (though sadly, it seems like a lot of people don't distinguish between medical experts and quacks), and even ChatGPT--so I can't see any excuse for showing up to the ER for something minor instead of just looking up what to do about it.

    Hi John, I appreciate the quality and very informative videos as always. I’m finishing up undergrad and starting PA school next June. I’m just curious from your perspective: what are the major benefits of being a PA compared to an MD? More specifically, what are the most influential positives/negatives that have you have noticed &/or directly impacted you in your ER position? I’m currently working as a PCT in a hospital and am hearing many great things about being a PA, and since it’s the route I’m heading I want to be more definitive (closer to 100% although I know that may not be realistic in all cases) in my decision to choose this path over MD since I’ve been having some recent conflicting thoughts

    Im a new grad NP. I work in the ER as a nurse. I want to do urgent care as an NP as well. I’m looking for a place where I can get the best training possible and 3 day work week. Most places I’ve seen are only offering a couple of weeks of training. I’d love to find one offering 6-12 months. Where are those?

    Yes, PAs are in many occasions plan B for those who do not make it to med school. It is also plan A for those who like the fun of medicine without the hard work and sacrifice, which is just unfair for the rest of us. In the UK up to 50% of applicants have already been rejected from med school, and many of those who graduate as PAs apply to med school afterwards. PA roles should not exist. It’s just a way the system has to save money in expend of patient safety and making doctor’s jobs harder. It’s just unfair.

    Regardless of the profession, there is a universal truth: who gets the job may not be the one who can best do the job, but the one who can best do the interview for the job. Sad but true. I suspect this is true of this type of interview.

    • @JohnThePA
      @JohnThePA 24 дні тому

      A PA program may get 2,000 - 3,000 applicants. They then extend an interview to a couple hundred people for, say, 50 seats. Some have more seats and others have less. Some applicants offered a spot may choose a different school. But the vast majority of applicants are never able to show up to talk about themselves. Many are qualified but the interview is a way to show that off.

    Not a video on school but I am interested in becoming a Physician assistant and have to start from nothing at 40. My school I am looking inti is Loma Linda and I have been in contact with them to see if my 14 years as a Psych tech would count as experience and yes it does. I asked if they would accept a degree from WGU and they will so I signed up for the Health science B.S program and it has some of the science courses in it but they are P/F and I was going to take A&P 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2, and Micro at whatever college I can but will this be seen as repeating a course? I start WGU June 1st and also Biology online that is a prereq for Anatomy at my local college and should not count against me because Biology is not a prereq for Loma Linda just to get me into Anatomy. Will it give a good impression to the school if I get the requirements done fast. I love science and read the PDR and Taber's for fun as well as watch science lectures on UA-cam so not saying I'm smart only it's fun for me. English is the course I am worried about most as I write what comes to mind without any goal in writing (obviously this illustrates this I know)

    NP school is easier than PA school- because we nurses already come with the baseline nursing / medical education. We know the medications, the disease processes and intervention already. PA's are coming in with no medical background and have to learn a lot within those 2.5 years.

    • @JohnThePA

    Hey John. Jon here. What do you think is a reasonable per diem rate (central California), Family medicine? A few years of experience. How do you feel about sign on bonuses? Initial offer is $65/hr. It's a new clinic, but with many of the same people as the old clinic (it's a merger). My pros/cons: I've always been willing to cover times that they needed more help (Fridays). People generally get along really well with me. I AM slower because I do spend more time with people. As a clinician, I am probably average. Cheers, brother. Keep killing it.

    • @JohnThePA
      @JohnThePA 2 місяці тому

      Hey Jon, $65 sounds way too low. If $70/hr is a fair rate for you and you think it's worthwhile, then go for it. But if you're in Central California and there's an above-average cost of living and state income taxes, I don't really see how you could agree to anything short of somewhere between $80-90/hour if there are no benefits. I've heard those Kaiser nurses are making a killing.

Do I just continue adding to the Transcript Entry section? Do I have to request for an updated transcript to be sent to CASPA? Also, I have a single class left to take online at a different institution. I don't take that until Fall 2024, how does that work if I want to apply now?

    I don’t understand looking up salaries and the data online. There are tons of job listings for PAs that are well into the upper 100s, but the stats don’t support this… I find this to be the case with lots of professions
